HE’S already been seen in action on one of the earlier prototypes, but now motocross legend Joel Smets is set to help finish off development of BMW’s 450cc enduro machine before it goes on sale later this year.

Landing Belgian Smets, one of the most legendary dirt riders ever seen in world motocross competition is a major coup for BMW.

BMW Motorrad has announced that it will send Smets to Australia to campaign its G450 X Sports Enduro bike in the A4DE series, months ahead of the bike’s international launch. Australia’s most prestigious enduro event kicks off on Thursday 17th April.

Alongside the prototype bike, Smets will be riding a standard machine.

“We are very excited to have Joel Smets return to Australia for the A4DE,” said Miles Davis, Marketing Manager, BMW Motorrad Australia and New Zealand: “Joel is no stranger to Australia having visited three times previously, so he has some idea of what to expect. We know the BMW G450X has plenty of performance and plenty of potential, and should revel in the A4DE conditions.”
