Overall Review

Fastest, most reliable way to go far with kit for ninepence. We are lucky.

Strengths

Replace later exhausts (with the little tailpipes stuck on) to liberate extra power/torque. No speed weave with panniers on. Clean oil makes them last you out.

Weaknesses

Loads of screw fasteners on plastic - buy a big tub of copaslip and an electric screwdriver. Visit both the gym and the pie shop regularly - a weighty piece.

Overall Review

Best touring bike for the money, if you're buying second-hand. I ride a 2000 Concours, US spec, and it can easily keep up with sport bikes in the twisties, will cruise on the motorway for hours in total comfort, and is a VERY easy bike to work on (barring the aforementioned valve adjustments...) I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. Also, it would be worth considering a front rotor upgrade, as the stock discs tend to warp fairly easily.

Strengths

Standard luggage. Handling. Power. Gearbox. Ease of servicing. Availability of spares. Fuel economy.

Weaknesses

Front brakes prone to warp. Some cheap details. Requires valve adjustments at 10-15k intervals.

Overall Review

I would give this bike at least 4.5 out of five.I simply couldn't find fault with it.It got extremely hot in some of the states in the USA but it's radiator and fan soon cooled everything down.A really great package for street-touring.Gravel roads and dust a worry but then this bike was not designed for rough surfaces.Am hoping to drive Europe's roads on it in the coming months.I put in 600 mile days and got off this machine without the slightest wince or strain.Drove across Death Valley, drove the moist, damp west coast route 101.Drove second or third highest pass in North America(11500ft)Bike just performed and performed.Had to use a tiny amount of choke in the Rocky Mountains(Quite cool in the mornings)but the GTR1000 just sucked it in and moved on each day.Ultra reliable machine.Storage space in panniers is very satisfactory.A large givi box on the back should mean easy long distance travel with plenty amount of space for tents and sleeping bags and so forth.Love my other bike dearly(XRV750) but will use the GTR when not doing back roads or rough country roads.Would highly recommend especially to anyone expecting to ride the highways of Europe or the US.Low pricing for this model also.I paid 2300 euro before other charges from the dealer in Chicago,Illinois.Bike had 45k miles and was exceptionally clean(1998).Great machine and am waiting for it to arrive now with keen anticipation.........

Strengths

Extremely comfortable, very good mpg if not driven like a loon(which is possible as there is a nice long top-end),lovely smooth shaft driven engine, peppy and responsive even at higher speeds.Great weather protection.Great storage capacity.Huge tank range.Just wants to go and go and go etc.

Weaknesses

Wide turning arc.....ehrmmmm.....yep....wide turning arc!!!

Overall Review

A brilliant effort by Kawasaki. Big bike that can be surprisingly nimble when ridden well. Brakes were only adequate until the updated 90's version. I would definitely have another one. Fantastic tourer with nice panniers. Loved mine.

Strengths

Shaft drive - solid build - supreme comfort - decent handler for its size. Excellent weather protection.

Weaknesses

Nothing at all.
