Great styling and brilliant fun to ride.
Very little in the way of practicalities.
For the selfish among us this is the perfect weekend toy

Got it last may from Jason and Mark at The KTM Centre Hemel. Done 3k miles and still love it. Can't wait for some good weather though. What a beast!

Strengths

acceleration, cornering, looks, and the sound

Weaknesses

seat too hard!

Excellent. KTM Service from KTM Centre in Hemel Hempstead is excellent and you really feel like you are buying into an exclusive brand.. love the bike, not bothered that it wont do 180mph and it turns more heads than anything I have owned before.

Strengths

Ok so I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the last Superduke R into the country. Every dealer had sold out but a quick call to KTM directly sourced one direct from an Austrian dealer, straght to my main dealer. So swapping from an R1 (and numberous GSXRs and CBRs before that), I thought the Superduke R might lack some of the performance I was used to. The Duke R easily feels as fast 0-80 as the R1 was (2001 model) but you do start to feel the wind above 90mph. That said, the whole point of chopping the sports bike was to keep my riding under 100 and this has certainly helped. The V Twinis really revvy, really smooth and eager to pull all the way through the range. The handling is far sweeter than any sports bike I have ever owned and riding position for me at over 6' 3" is very comfy. As for the looks, the R model looks far better than the stocker in my mind and well worth the £500 extra.I have even had one guy in a car do a u turn at the lights to come and ask me what the bike was... Awsome.

Weaknesses

Seats a bit hard, wind blast is a pain on long journeys at anything over 90mph, also first gear seems quite tall so u labour the engine in second if you dip under 30mph. So just ride a bit quicker... :-)

Overall Review

This little jewel set me back $16,000 U.S. and my wife was ready to toss me, body and soul, out of the house. Fortunately it is worth every stinking cent. KTM built a dirt bike for the street. Some bits are a bit rough around the edges (a la dirt bike) but overall the Super Duke 990 is perhaps the most fun I have had in my 1.2 million miles of motorcycling (throughout the U.S. and Switzerland, parts of Africa and bits of Israel)

Strengths

Phenominal motor, great handling, outstanding brakes. Seating is OK (body positioning is spot on but the seats a bit rugged). Can be tossed into corners with reckless abandon!

Weaknesses

Cross country in the rain, on dirt roads, left bike be-splattered with mud. Cleaning was AWFUL. Eventually broke down and used tons of Simple Green and a toothbrush. Felt like I was back in the Marines cleaning toilets!
