A 2019 Valentino Rossi replica helmet has sold for €4,250 (around £3,680) as part of MotoGP’s first-ever Authentics auction.

Not all the results from the auction are known at the time of writing, including the special Excalibur helmet Rossi wore during winter testing in 2007, nor have the figures for Jake Dixon’s official Moto2 race bike been revealed either.

But we do have details of some of the memorabilia that was available in the MotoGP auction, which ran from August 12 to the 26.

From the results that have been published, the 2019 Rossi helmet proved to be one of the most popular. While it was not a helmet he used directly during that season for the official Monster Energy Yamaha Team, it was signed by the nine-time world champion himself.

In fact, it’s one of the most recognisable helmets he used, not just because he wore it towards the end of his illustrious career, but because it features the Soleluna (translates to sun and moon) design in a matt yellow finish.

Another piece of memorabilia that sold for a relatively big price tag was the official race leathers worn by Dixon during the 2023 Moto2 race at Silverstone.

The leathers, which feature heavy scuff marks on the right forearm, ultimately sold for €2,000 (roughly £1,730), and MotoGP says the Alpinestars race suit was “preserved to maintain the integrity of its design and the marks from the race, making them a unique collectible”.

The leathers used by Dixon during the 2023 British Grand Prix are not from the same season as the bike that was also up for sale in the auction, which was last year’s motorcycle.

This story will be updated when further details of the auction’s full results are revealed.
