Tai Woffinden has provided an update on his condition after suffering a speedway crash that left him in an induced coma.

Woffinden suffered his accident while racing for Polish speedway club Rzeszow when he collided with team-mate Franciszek Majewski at the first turn.

The two bikes then locked together as a result of the impact before going on to hit the air fence. Woffinden suffered a long list of injuries as a result of the collision and was airlifted to hospital soon after the crash.

Woffinde suffered a double compound fracture to the right femur, 12 broken ribs, a dislocated left shoulder and the loss of three litres of blood. The British rider also suffered a left broken shoulder blade, a punctured lung, and a compound fracture of the right humerus, among other injuries.

But the three-time world champion is now back on his feet and able to walk, as demonstrated in his latest social media post.

Speaking on Sunday, April 13, Woffinden said: “Hey guys, turns out my injuries and an induced coma ain’t no joke. I’m on the mend, but please bear with me for now. I just need a little more time to rest and gather my thoughts.

“Please know how much I appreciate everyone’s love and support from all over the world.”

Woffinden suffered the fall on March 30 during the race in Poland. The severity of the crash caused the event to be abandoned.

His recovery will be well received by fans around the world as support has flooded in for the British rider when he was taken to hospital.
