Shark has announced that its flagship Aeron GP racing motorcycle helmet has achieved FIM 2 homologation, the latest and most demanding safety certification from the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM).

The news comes just months before the standard becomes mandatory in MotoGP for the 2026 season, with the updated protocol including more impact test points, stronger requirements for shell strength, and improved protection against rotational forces. That final point is a key topic for safety in racing, as it is the kind of trauma that is linked to serious brain injuries during crashes. There’s also an upgraded visor locking system aimed at keeping everything where it should be if things go wrong.

Despite the added safety brief, Shark claims the Aeron GP keeps the same fit, weight and aerodynamic profile as before. As the name suggests, aerodynamics is a big part of the Aeron GP’s story, with MotoGP and EWC racers aiding with the early development. The headline tech is what Shark calls an Adaptive Aero System (A2S), which automatically alters airflow depending on the rider’s position on the bike.

According to the brand, that translates to an 80 per cent reduction in the so-called “flag effect”, 50 per cent less turbulence, and a five per cent drop in overall drag, all of which should help with fatigue over a race distance.

Construction centres around an exposed carbon and aramid shell, backed up by two shell sizes and four EPS densities. Ventilation is handled by five intake ports and seven extractors, while the Optical Class 1 visor offers a claimed 220-degree field of lateral vision.

Inside, Alvéotech-treated liners, redesigned 3D cheek pads, and a quick-release system aim to balance race-spec performance with day-long comfort.

The Aeron GP will be worn by all Shark-backed riders, including Johann Zarco and Raúl Fernández, from the opening MotoGP tests ahead of the 2026 campaign.

It’s already available in sizes XS to XXL, with the Carbon Skin version in shops now and more graphics expected throughout the year. Recommended retail price is £999.99.
