Royal Enfield strikes deal to sell bikes on Amazon
Royal Enfield’s small-capacity motorcycles can now be bought on Amazon in India, but only in certain locations, for now.
According to reports, Royal Enfield is now selling 350cc motorcycles on Amazon India in a total of five locations, which started on 10 October.
The locations include Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Pune, but more could potentially be added going forward. The reports also claim that it is Royal Enfield’s entire 350cc range, which includes the Classic 350, Bullet 350, Hunter 350, Goan Classic 350, and the Meteor 350, that are available on the online advertising platform.
When making an order, customers can choose their preferred dealership, which will handle delivery, registration and after-sales. This is all done at checkout and through a dedicated Royal Enfield store on Amazon.
Riding gear, genuine accessories and Royal Enfield merchandise are also available to buy on the same platform, according to reports in India. Alongside the new deal with Amazon, Royal Enfield has also made the 350-range available for purchase on e-commerce platform, Flipkart, but only in Bengaluru, Gurugram, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Mumbai.
The most affordable 350cc motorcycle in Royal Enfield’s range is the Hunter 350, which is priced at £3,899 in all five colourways in the UK. At the top of the range in terms of price is the new Goan Classic 350, which is only available in limited numbers and costs £4,719.
Motorcycles and Amazon in the same sentence certainly come as a surprise, but when you really think about it, it’s perhaps a genius idea. Amazon is used worldwide and, in my experience, tends to be very easy to manage. If that’s also true when buying Royal Enfield’s models, then a user-friendly, stress-free and quick way of buying a motorcycle could appeal to many people and drive up sales further.
Only available in India at the moment, it remains to be seen if more countries will adopt strategies like this going forward.
