Royal Enfield planning broad range of electric models but ICE remains the focus

Royal Enfield says it intends to focus heavily on building a broader range of electric motorcycles, although internal combustion engine (ICE) bikes will remain the core focus of the company for as long as possible. 

This information was revealed as part of an annual report by RE’s parent company, Eicher Motors Limited. 

Royal Enfield recently began deliveries of the new Flying Flea C6 in Bangalore, India, while a steady rollout is expected to follow nationwide. Deliveries will then head to Europe as part of the company’s global efforts to increase interest in its electric motorcycle range, which also features the Flying Flea S6.

The scrambler variant of the Flying Flea is not yet available to the public, but that is also expected to change soon. However, Royal Enfield is now planning more models in the future, although it’s not yet been confirmed what they will be.

But despite the push to grow its electric range, Royal Enfield is still prioritising ICE motorcycles for the time being.

In the report, Siddhartha Lal, Executive Chairman of Eicher Motors Limited, said: 

“The FF.C6 is already retailing in Bangalore, with expansion to other parts of India and then Europe planned during the year. The scrambler-styled FF.S6 will follow, as part of a broader family of electric motorcycles. We are building this electric future with real commitment. 

“At the same time, petrol motorcycles will remain central to Royal Enfield - we will continue to keep the petrol flag flying for as long as we possibly can, investing fully in new models, platforms and technology. Our responsibility is to build for the transition ahead while continuing to make the motorcycles that riders love and choose today.” 

Those new models mentioned will include motorcycles from RE’s new 750cc range, including the Himalayan and Continental GT 750, which are expected to arrive later this year.
