The soon-to-be-launched Royal Enfield Flying Flea C6 grabbed the headlines last weekend after making its first road appearance in Europe, at the Rome Marathon.

The cavalcade in Italy’s capital was spearheaded by the new model, which was joined at the start line by a selection of classic and vintage motorcycles from the Indian company’s history.

RE gave little away regarding the looks of its Flying Flea C6, as the electric model was dressed in a camouflage livery for its debut appearance on European roads.

Ahead of the starter's gun, 23 Royal Enfield motorcycles rode in formation through the ancient cobbled streets of the marathon route. This meant passing through the world renowned heritage sights, Colosseo, Circo Massimo, Piazza Del Popolo, Piazza Di Spagna and Piazza Navona.

The Flying Flea C6 was joined by Royal Enfield's first motorised vehicle, which was a Quadracycle from 1901. Furthermore, a 225cc Model 201 from 1921, a 700cc Meteor from 1953, and a Factory-prepared competition specification 350cc Bullet Trails from 1957 also lined up for the start.

The partnership between Royal Enfield and organisers of the Marathon also led to a total of 30 Guerrilla 450 and Himalayan 450 machines being used by mobile support teams, stewards and mobile media units.

Royal Enfield's current range of motorcycles were showcased at the event by selected owners from the Rome branch of ‘Riders Club of Europe’ (RCE).

Riders arrived fresh from a 125th Anniversary RCE community ride out the day before the marathon (Saturday, 21 March), where RCE members took part in a 125km (around 77 miles) ride-out to celebrate the brand’s 125 year anniversary celebrations.

Around 40,000 runners are believed to have taken part in the marathon on Sunday, with approximately 166 countries represented.
