Remy Gardner swaps WorldSBK for one of the toughest off-road races in the world
Remy Gardner has cut short his WorldSBK summer break by making his first appearance at the Red Bull Romaniacs race.
Yamaha WorldSBK rider, Remy Gardner, has completed one of the most unusual in-season changes of discipline by completing one of the toughest off-road races in the world, the Red Bull Romaniacs.
Gardner, who is one of only a few current WorldSBK riders to have a contract in the series for 2027, cut short his superbike summer break by trying his hand at the famous hard enduro race.
The Australian rider completed over 27 hours in the saddle, eventually finishing a very respectable 34th in the Silver category. Gardner finished seven hours behind compatriot Sandon Kerswell, who won the class.
The overall event was won by none other than KTM star Manuel Lettenbichler, who is the current Hard Enduro World Championship (HEWC) series leader. Lettenbichler is one of the sports’ biggest names, and a five-time Hard Enduro championship winner.
To underline just how good Lettenbichler is, he finished more than an hour ahead of second place, while his victory was a record-equalling seventh at the Red Bull Romaniacs event.
For Gardner, the change to hard enduro racing was a brief one as the former MotoGP racer will be back in WorldSBK action at the start of next month. The 2026 WorldSBK championship returns to action on September 4-6 with round nine of the season at Magny-Cours, France.
Three rounds will follow to close out the 2026 campaign, with riders then heading to Cremona (Italy) for round 10. Estoril (Portugal) will act as the penultimate race of the season, before riders and teams head to Jerez (Spain) for the season finale.
Gardner is one of three Yamaha riders with a contract in his back pocket for 2027; Stefano Manzi and Andrea Locatelli are the other two.
