John McGuinness has confirmed his intention to race in 2027, but admits discussions with Honda will need to take place.

McGuinness, who celebrated his 30th anniversary at the Isle of Man TT earlier this year, will be one of the major stars competing at this month’s Classic TT. The 54-year-old will take part in a special parade lap, alongside his racing commitments.

Despite his age, ‘McPint’ is still competing at a very high level, and hopes to continue that in 2027 with Honda. The 23-time TT winner was in action last weekend at Oulton Park, where he raced in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship aboard his Honda Racing UK CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP.

McGuinness finished the first of two races in 17th place, before crashing from 15th in race two, which was his first fall in around six years.

If McGuinness does continue racing in 2027, it will be his 37th season, and all signs point to that happening based on his comments over the weekend. Speaking to TNT Sports, McGuinness said:

“It’s my 36th season of racing and I don’t want to retire yet. I think just keep going while we’re enjoying it and having fun, and that’s where we are at the minute – we’re having a lot of fun with it all.

“We’ll have to get around the table with Honda; we’ve got a discussion to make about where we’re going to go next year. I’m going to say nothing, we’ll get around a table, make a plan and whatever happens, I will always be in the paddock; I love the people, love the industry and I’m not hanging my boots up just yet.”

Although race wins at the TT have proved tough to come by in recent years, McGuinness is continuing to get faster and faster each year. At this year’s TT Races, McGuinness set his fastest ever six-lap race time during the Superbike TT race.
