JONATHAN Rea has hailed his victory in race two of the Lausitzring World Superbike round as the most vital win of his charge for a second title.
The Kawasaki rider stormed to victory in the rain at the German track by keeping his cool and rhythm while his title rivals faded. After grabbing the lead into turn one Rea took a lights-to-flag win in an emphatic fashion which was aided when both Tom Sykes, Davide Giugliano and Lorenzo Savadori all crashed out while running in second place in separate incidents.
With his nine wins in 2016 Rea has called it his 'most important win' to bounce back from two consecutive retirements which saw his lead shattered by Tom Sykes.
“It was one of those positions that with me leading the championship I had a lot to lose - but a lot to gain as well,” Rea said. “I took my chance and put my head down from the start. I really felt good with the bike so I have to thank all my crew because last night my bike was not in a great way. They worked really late, and meticulously, to make sure the bike was perfect.
“It feels like probably the most important win of my career so far.”
After his retirement and crash in Germany coupled with Sykes' results Rea has actually extended his championship advantage by a single point from the summer break with three rounds remaining.
