O'Halloran takes first win of 2022, Ryde crashes | BSB Donington Race 2 Results

Race two of the third round of the 2022 British Superbike Championship resulted in a first win of the season for Jason O’Halloran.

Jason O'Halloran - McAMS Yamaha R1

The second race of the Donington National round of the 2022 British Superbike Championship was won comfortably by Jason O’Halloran.

O’Halloran dominated the first part of the championship in 2021, but in 2022 he and the McAMS Yamaha team have taken time to get an updated Yamaha R1 to work for the Australian. It seems as though it has clicked now, though, and his winning margin was 2.563 seconds at the end of 26 laps of the National layout at Donington.

The rider who sat those 2.5 seconds behind O’Halloran was Bradley Ray, who looked as though he had begun to struggle with rear grip from about half-distance, and while O’Halloran was able to keep some in reserve for the end, Ray had to slow down and settle for second.

Lee Jackson, similarly, had to slow in the second half of the race. As O’Halloran passed Ray for the lead midway through the race, Jackson looked to have more tyre left than both Yamaha riders, but in the end he finished 6.398 seconds behind the winner.

Peter Hickman was clearly able to save his tyre well in the race, passing several riders in the direction change between the Old Hairpin and Starkey’s. The #60 finished fourth, having passed five riders in the closing stages.

Completing the top five was Leon Haslam, ahead of an impressive Tarran Mackenzie in sixth; while Christian Iddon was seventh, ahead of Rory Skinner, Ryan Vickers and Josh Brookes who completed the top 10.

Kyle Ryde looked early on as though he would be able to challenge for his second win of the season. But he crashed at McLean’s on lap six, and his bike went tumbling through the gravel and all the way to the barriers. The OMG Racing team will have a lot of work to do to get the bike ready for Ryde in time for the second race.
