Motorcycle sales in the UK are on the mend as July sees steady rise
New motorcycle registrations saw a welcomed increase for the month of July, with the adventure and sportbike segments playing a pivotal role.

Following a murky start to 2025, new motorcycle registrations in the UK picked up during the month of July.
The new motorcycle market in the UK started the year with dips in January and February compared to the same months in 2024. That’s remained the case for each month since then compared to the previous year. So, although July’s numbers are better than others this year, they’re still down from 2024.
Some months have been better than others in 2025, with April and May showing slight improvements over the months before. June then saw a steep decline in new bike sales.
Figures from the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) show that July was only -2.4 per cent worse off than the same month in 2024. That’s the smallest deficit of any month in 2025.
July’s improvement of -2.4 compares favourably to the -18.6 per cent in June, representing a swing of over 16 per cent.
One of the reasons for the up-turn in fortunes has been the sportbike segment (which MCIA refers to as “road sport”). It has improved by 15.5 per cent over the same month in 2024. The adventure segment, while not as big in its rise compared to the same month in 2024, is up by 0.6 per cent.
Tony Campbell, CEO of MCIA, said: “It has undoubtedly been a challenging year for our sector, with new bike registrations up to June falling short of 2024 levels. That said, many of our members continue to see solid performance in other areas, such as used bikes, components, accessories, and aftermarket services. July delivered a welcome uptick, and we hope this signals a stronger second half of the year for new motorcycle sales.
“As we look ahead to the remainder of 2025, we welcome signs of a possible interest rate reduction. We urge the Government to consider carefully the pressures facing businesses and consumers as it shapes its Autumn Budget — and to work with industry to create the conditions for long-term growth.”
