Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR teased… and is that a fairing we spy?

Triumph causes a stir by teasing the brand-new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR, which promises 'sophistication and focused performance to come'

Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR Teaser

In a world of teasers, spy shots and hints, Triumph has just pulled off something of a Beyonce by dropping a very unexpected new video to its channels showing what it brands the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR.

OK, so it’s not a full album drop, but this is definitely teasing an exclusive EP of a motorcycle, one that is likely to get fans in a lather despite it not revealing too many precious details about what it is.

The caption reads: “The RR design prototype gives the first exciting glimpse at a new statement in Speed Triple beauty, crafted sophistication and focused performance to come.”

Labelled as a ‘design prototype’ the format reminds us of how the Trident 660 was revealed in pre-production form last year, meaning though we don’t get to see much of the motorcycle right now, a reveal is surely just around the corner.

As to what we can expect, well prepare to let the wires go wild with speculation. Of course there is an obvious clue in the name with the Speed Triple 1200 forming the basis for this new model.

However, the suffix ‘RR’ is one that will certainly prompt plenty of conjecture because it’s not a term used on any other model in the Triumph range.

That said, it doesn’t take an enthusiast to connect ‘RR’ to a racing term, which will no doubt begin threads about this heralding a return to the sportsbike area for Triumph. The manufacturer has just exited the supersport ranks with the discontinuation of the Daytona, with the 765cc Moto2-inspired version providing the final swansong.

Though management remain tight-lipped about the prospect of the Daytona returning, it hasn’t been denying it either.

That’s not to say Triumph is powering back entirely with a sportsbike in the purest sense - despite cries to do so - but it could at least be a semi-faired version of the Speed Triple 1200 RS.

Either way, expect this to be a more sporting focused model to target the likes of the Ducati Streetfighter V4 and KTM 1290 Super Duke R.
