TRIUMPH’S new Scrambler has finally landed! Yes, the teasing pictures and videos will no longer be sliding up your newsfeed and instead, we can have a look at some actual photos!

So, what have we got and how will this be better than the Street Scrambler?…

Triumph reveals Scrambler 1200 XC and 1200 XE

It’s definitely still a Triumph - you can’t deny that the Hinckley factory has got the styling bang on, as always. And if the detailing and finish of the rest of the fleet is anything to go by, I’m pretty sure it’ll look great close-up, too!

Triumph have released not one, but two bikes for us to look at tonight, the 1200XC and the 1200XE. The XC is of a more dual-purpose nature, for the road-focussed riders among us. But the XE sounds like the bike we all wanted it to be - the one that does all the things off-road that the Street Scrambler couldn’t.

Both bikes use a retuned version of the 1200cc parallel twin we saw in the Bobber, Bobber Black and Speedmaster, which delivers a claimed 90ps (88bhp) at 7,400rpm and 110Nm of torque at 3,950rpm. This is great news, given that the main fault of the old bike was a slightly insipid motor.

Both bikes feature a redesigned frame that not just accommodates the bigger 1200cc engine but also lifts the bike up making it visibly taller. There are no ground clearance figures quoted for the new bike but, given that the seat height is a claimed 870mm on the XE (compared to the 792mm of the Street Scrambler) you'd have to think that some of that has given more space beneath the frame. And that's definitely a good thing as the previous Street Scrambler was woefully low when it came to proper off-roading. The stance is helped by Showa adjustable USD forks with 250mm travel at the front and some funky looking 250mm Ohlins shocks picking up the slack at the rear.

Overall the bike looks like a great improvement compared to its smaller sibling. The engine sounds like a peach and the top drawer suspension might make it a true rival for the well-spec’d and designed Ducati Desert Sled.

We'll know very soon whether the bikes live up to the hype, as we'll be riding both at the world press launch in December.

Stay tuned for our riding impressions...
