New Royal Enfield Hunter spotted testing

The next new model from Royal Enfield has been spotted undergoing some on-road testing in India

AFTER speaking to its design team last month, it was clear that the development of the next range of Royal Enfield motorcycles was well under way, with these spy shots confirming that the Hunter is nearing completion.

While the pictures are fairly grainy and obviously shot from a passing vehicle, we can clearly see the engine of the bike is an air-cooled unit similar to that of the Meteor. It’s thought that this machine pictured (the Hunter) has been codenamed J1D internally, with leaked documents confirming the Meteor is dubbed J1C0 and being developed at the same time as the Hunter.

Royal Enfield Himalayan review

At the front of the bike we can clearly see a cast alloy wheel and connecting to the telescopic forks what looks to be a two-piston brake caliper. The rear of the bike looks again to feature a cast wheel and disc brake set up with an upswept end can sitting very close to where a passenger’s feet would be.

The tubular structure you can see above the exhaust is a saree guard and is designed to stop a passenger’s clothing from becoming intertwined in the bike’s rear wheel. The frontally mounted leg-guards don’t look standard and are probably more there to throw other road users and eagle-eyed journos off the scent!

It’s widely reported that the Hunter is target at the growing number of female riders looking to take to two-wheels. Given the diminutive size of the bike, it’s easy-going delivery and low-level performance, it’d make an ideal steed for anyone looking to get on to two-wheels.
