Dash-cam equipped Yamaha Cygnus-X 125 spotted testing

The new Yamaha Cygnus-X 125 has been spotted testing and could include an innovative dash-cam

IF you’re looking for a cheap to run, cheap to buy and easy to ride scooter for the city, the Yamaha Cygnus-X 125 is a very safe bet. It’s also lightweight, good looking and sits at the premium end of the scooter market.

But even good bikes need improving, as we can see from these latest spy shots from Japan that have caught the next-gen Cygnus-X 125 undergoing some on-road testing.

While the updated styling and dazzle camo are the first things you notice, there are a couple of clues that could point to the most advanced 125cc scooter to date.

The top portion of the bike that is covered with the chequered camouflage seems to be hiding a small secret right at its centre. We’re hearing unconfirmed rumours that the small dark dot at the centre of the handlebars is some kind of dashcam, recording what is going on in front of the machine.

If this is indeed the case, it’d seem likely that the next-gen Cygnus-X will be Bluetooth enabled – tech that Yamaha already has on bikes like the R1 and R1M. Not using Bluetooth would mean either the bike would need its own hard-disk to save the data on or the ability to connect to the cloud – bot options aren’t ideal.

With a camera at the front, it’d seem sensible to have one at the rear too, although from all the spy shots we’ve found you can’t make one out. That’s not to say it isn’t there though – the hardware of the system (the cameras and lenses) is the fairly cheap bit of kit to buy, it’s the Bluetooth module and coding of the system that takes time and money.
