Isle of Man TT star Maria Costello provides heartfelt recovery update

Maria Costello has admitted the “rollercoaster of emotions” that she is currently going through as part of her Isle of Man TT recovery is unlike anything she’s ever experienced.

This comes as part of a second recovery update this month, after the trailblazing road racer updated fans on her condition on 12 July. Costello remains in hospital following her serious accident at the 2026 TT, where she was competing alongside Shaun Parker in the Sidecar class.

The accident led to life-changing injuries for Costello, who suffered paralysis from the T5/T6 vertebrae down, a broken back, including fractures to both vertebrae, broken arm, multiple broken ribs, a broken sternum, a broken nose and eye socket, as well as a Grade 4 liver laceration and facial injuries.

Costello is one of the most popular female racers of all time, and the support from fans, and the motorcycle community as a whole, has been “incredible”, according to the road racer.

In her latest recovery update, Costello thanked the community for the support she’s received, while also providing further details about her recovery.

A post on social media from Costello, said: 

“Hello…

“I thought I’d try a bit of normality and just do what I’d normally do and share some photos of the TT in a post…

“Then I found hundreds more messages of love and support from you - that I hadn’t yet seen!!! 

“So this post is also to share appreciation from both Shaun and I for your support. 

"Your comments and messages are genuinely making all the difference. The love and support from you has moved me and filled my soul. What an incredible community you are! 

“Then I want to update you but I’m not finding it easy. The rollercoaster of emotions and the mental and physical challenges are like nothing I’ve faced before. So please bear with me. I know I’m fortunate to be at this specialist hospital with such incredible staff who are making all the difference as I navigate rehabilitation.”

Following her accident, a GoFundMe page was created to aid Costello in her recovery, and so far it has raised £306,555 of the £350,000 target.
