HJC launches latest sport-touring helmet
HJC looks to build on the success of its sport-touring platform with the newly released RPHA 72.

South Korean helmet maker HJC has launched its latest sport-touring lid: the RPHA 72. Building on what was already a top-spec and reasonably affordable platform, this latest iteration promises to be lighter and more compact than previous generations.
Although, exactly when we’ll see the RPHA 72 in the UK is unknown. We’ve checked with the folks at HJC’s UK distributor and at present there is “no ETA yet.” Surely, though, it will be soon.
HJC says that in developing the RPHA 72 “every detail has been refined for a smoother, lighter, quieter, and more stable ride.”
Weight has been reduced from the previous generation RPHA 71 helmet, and the shell is smaller to ensure a better fit and more stylish look. It also helps with the helmet’s function.

“Wind tunnel testing shows a 19.7 percent reduction in drag force and a 6.2 percent reduction in lift force, resulting in a more stable and enjoyable ride,” according to HJC.
The visor has been re-engineered to be lighter and more compact. And its ratchet system has been updated to improve operation and its seal.
The drop-down sun visor, meanwhile, now allows you to adjust the angle of the visor somewhat, which HJC says gives riders “more control and comfort under varying riding conditions.”

I don’t think I’ve ever found myself wishing that I could tweak the angle of a helmet’s sun visor, but perhaps I just don’t know what I’m missing.
A new chin curtain and a revised interior design, with an extended semi neck-roll, help to minimize wind noise. And the helmet is compatible with 2nd Gen SMART HJC Bluetooth systems.
“Designed as a true sport-touring helmet, the RPHA 72 is engineered to meet the demands of both aggressive sport riders and long-distance touring enthusiasts,” says HJC. “It delivers the perfect balance of aerodynamic performance, comfort, noise reduction, and protection - making it the ideal companion for any ride.”

HJC was founded in South Korea in 1971, initially focusing on safety and riot helmets before specializing in motorcycle helmets. Over the last decade or so, the company has really stepped up in terms of quality and style. I have a personal fondness for the company because I once hit the road at 70 mph while wearing an HJC lid, and walked away with only a damaged ego.
Since then, HJC has been one of my most-favoured brands. My RPHA 70, for example, has been a go-to helmet for pretty much every scenario.
As you would expect, the RPHA 72 also features a double D-Ring, Pinlock anti-fog lens insert, ECE 22.06 certification. Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that now may be a good time to pick up an RPHA 71 at a reduced price.
