One person dead after violence at US bike show

One person fatally shot and seven wounded after rival bike gangs attack each other with guns and knives

ONE person has been shot dead and another seven people taken to hospital with gunshot and stab wounds after a fight between rival bike gangs at the Colorado Motorcycle Expo at the Denver Coliseum on Sunday.

Reports from paramedics attending the scene say that three people were hospitalised with gunshot wounds, another was stabbed and another three were injured in fistfights.

The brawl occurred between the Iron Order Motorcycle Club and the Mongols Motorcycle Club. The Iron Order MC is said to contain a high contingent of police and military personnel, who were apparently jumped on by the Mongols.

The two clubs have blamed each other for the violence.

The deceased is said to be a member of the Mongols, who was was killed by gunfire from a member of the Iron Order who works for the police as a corrections officer. Another Iron Order member said that the shooting was in self defence.

A member of the Mongols has claimed that the Iron Order instigated the fight by taunting them, although separate witnesses have said there didn’t seem to be any arguments going on before the fight broke out.

As of Sunday night, no arrests had been made and the police refused to release any more details while investigations continued.

The Colorado Motorcycle Expo was in its final day and following the violence, organisers cancelled some of the remaining events while the show came to a close.
