M6 wheelie biker jailed
Pawel Zietowski was handed eight months in prison and a 28-month driving ban
A BIKER who performed a series of wheelies on a major motorway while being followed by an undercover police car has been jailed.
Pawel Zietowski, from Harlow, Essex, was filmed for 16 minutes by the patrol car on the M6 northbound in Staffordshire as he stood up on his Yamaha R6, wheelied and even rummaged through his rucksack for his mobile phone. He was travelling above the 70mph motorway speed limit at the time.
Following his dangerous stunts on the afternoon on June 3, the 27-year-old was pulled over at Yarnfield, between junctions 14 and 15, by an officer from the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG).
Following an initial appearance at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday 8 August where he pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle dangerously, Zietowski was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court yesterday, September 18th.
He was handed eight months in prison and a 28-month driving ban, while the charges of speeding and using a handheld mobile device while driving were withdrawn.
Inspector Sion Hathway, from CMPG, commented: "Such dangerous riding will not be tolerated on our roads. "Zietowski showed a blatant disregard for the rules of the road, and fellow motorists. His antics could have easily resulted in tragedy."
