Biker-killing van driver gets 14 years...
...and a year's community service when he's released in 2022
THE DRIVER of a van that collided with a biker in Daytona, killing him, was sentenced to 14 years in a US prison yesterday.
Stanislaw Kropiewnicki, 55, of St. Augustine will also be on community control for one year when he gets out of prison in 2022. He pleaded no contest in Circuit Court in St. Augustine to DUI manslaughter in the February crash that killed LaVerne Francis "Ivy" Ivis, 63, a retired Delta Airlines captain.
"It was extremely difficult," Ivis' widow, Anne Ivis, said after Thursday's hearing. "But I'm glad the court gave him what I would consider maximum sentence."
Ivis had just turned out of a junction and crossed into another lane when Kropiewnicki slammed into him, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Now that’s justice. 14 years inside, then a year on probation following it. Why can’t we get anything like that over here?
