CFMoto V4 SR-RR sets new Chinese top speed record

CFMoto claims to have set a new all-time top speed record for a Chinese combustion engine motorcycle.

Something special seems to be brewing in China that will make the bigwigs in Japan and Europe take notice, with CFMoto claiming its new V4 SR-RR has reached a top speed of 315.82 km/h (196.2 mph).

This is said to be a new record for a Chinese combustion engine motorcycle, and it is surprisingly close to what MotoGP bikes can achieve. The top speed record was broken at Mugello last month, when Aprilia Racing’s Jorge Martin clocked a top speed of 368.6 km/h (229 mph).

However, the new Chinese top speed record from the V4 SR-RR is just 32 mph short of that figure. GPS-verified, according to CFMoto, the bike’s official top speed of 196.6 mph puts it in direct competition against the Ducati Panigale V4 S and Aprilia RSV4 Factory.

Powered by a 997cc V4, the new model has a rated power output of around 209 bhp, which is also comparable to that of the Panigale V4 S (213 bhp) and RSV4 Factory (216 bhp), although the latter archives that power through a larger 1,100cc engine.

The V4 SR-RR was unveiled as a concept model by CFMoto at the 2025 EICMA show in Milan, Italy. Since then it has gathered a lot of attention, and looks destined for a future in racing. WorldSBK could be an option when the Chinese company does indeed take its V4 SR-RR into production.

So what does 196.6 mph equate to? Well, achieving that speed means covering a distance of 87.7 metres per second. Averaging 196.6 mph over a full lap of the Silverstone circuit would mean lapping the 3.6-mile track in just 67 seconds.

Of course, lapping any circuit at full speed for its entirety is an impossible task, but it still gives you an idea of just how fast that really is. At full speed, the V4 SR-RR can travel one mile in just 18 seconds.

Interestingly, the V4 SR-RR is also faster than the Eurostar, which reaches maximum speeds of 300 km/h (186.4 mph).
