Wunderlich’s Edition X kit gives the BMW R1300 GS a harder edge

Designed to echo last year’s EICMA concept build, the new Edition X kits tweak the GS’s rear end, ergonomics and stance while keeping everything road legal and bolt-on.

When Wunderlich pulled the covers off its Edition X concept for the BMW R1300 GS at EICMA last year, it was the kind of build that stopped showgoers mid-stride. Now the German accessories firm is turning that show bike into something you can actually buy, with a pair of Edition X Enduro kits designed to bolt straight onto the standard R1300 GS.

Available in Trophy or Triple Black flavours, the kits aim to replicate the stripped-back, off-road stance of the concept without you needing to fabricate anything yourself. The visual centrepiece is a slimmed-down rear conversion that tidies up the tail and sharpens the profile of BMW’s big boxer. Paired with an exhaust riser that kicks the standard silencer up by 18 degrees, an adjustable number plate holder and a dedicated Edition X seat, the finished bike is noticeably leaner and more dirt-focused than stock.

The bikes also gain a swathe of extra protection, with a black tank fairing cover that shields the GS’s softer OE tank cover while masking the standard grey tone, giving the bike a more cohesive, factory-custom appearance.

Functionally, the biggest changes come from the seat and footrests. The Edition X seat ditches the contours in favour of a flatter, more rally-ready layout. The idea is to allow easier weight transfer when riding off-road, and fewer restrictions when moving between seated and standing positions. Underfoot, Wunderlich’s Ultimate stainless steel footrests replace the narrow originals with a broader platform that spreads load more evenly, and is claimed to reduce vibration. Buyers can even opt for a single-line laser engraving of up to 20 characters if they want a subtle personal touch - “If you can read this, I’ve crashed” on the underside is sadly too long.

Pricing for the complete Edition X Enduro kit sits at €2,099 (or around £1,800), with individual components also offered separately. That final point will matter to riders whose bikes are fitted with Riding Assistant or rear collision warning, as the high-level number plate holder is not compatible with those systems.

For GS owners who liked the Milan show bike but assumed it would stay a one-off, this is effectively the production version, and best of all, it’s one you get to put together yourself!
