Clarke CHT843 250ml Oil Can review
Designed long before anyone reading this review was born, this hand-pump oil can by Clarke is a classic, must have workshop accessory.

Whether a motorcycle, car, pushbike or house owner, the Clarke CHT843 250ml Oil Can is a vital accessory. I and countless other seniors learned this many years ago.
As a young wide-eyed sprog, I vividly remember seeing the then equivalent of a CHT843 sat in easy reach on grandad’s shed workbench. Interest grew to amazement every time he picked it up to thumb-pump oil to the end of the nozzle, and then carefully placing it exactly where lubricating oil needed to be. The careful, well-practiced final squeeze of the Oil Can’s thumb trigger deposited just enough honey-coloured engine oil to provide the required lubrication. On just about anything that needed a touch of lube.
From lubing clevis pins on his much-loved AJS to door hinges to garden shears, the old fellah would always turn to his trusted oil can. Father inherited it and I looked forward to the day he passed it down to me like it was a golden key to his homebrew shed. It didn’t happen. Out of the blue, he did a runner.

Fast forward some years to when I learned that if you look after a motorcycle, it will look after you, I bought my own 250ml Oil Can. It too is a much-cherished tool. So much so, I wasn’t prepared to use and leave it at the Visordown workshop, and a new one was acquired.
Built exactly to the same spec as oil cans of old, it features an all-steel body and screw on pump mechanism. Yes, it’s made to take knocks. With the CHT843 filled with new engine oil, anything that needs lubricating without mess of spray on lube, it is called into action. Ignition and seat locks, fuel cap hinges and more never, ever give trouble when fettled with the CHT843. For easy access the supplied fixed screw-on nozzle is perfect. Awkward to get at components are best tickled with the flexible, see through nozzle, also supplied.

The CHT843 Oil Can holds 250ml of precious lubricating fluid – a fabrication engineer friend has his filled with machining fluid to use when drilling steel – and is one of a family of varying sizes of Clarke Oil Cans. Presently available for just £7.19, for a lifetime tool of the trade, you could say it’s a bargain. Go get one. Today.
