Honda has won an award in the US for its swappable electric scooter battery, the Mobile Power Pack e:.

The battery was introduced a few years ago in Honda’s first electric scooter, the EM1 e:, which at the time was Honda’s first foray into the electric two-wheeler field.

The battery was designed to be not only removable and swappable, but also to be used with other two-wheeler models.

A few years on from its debut in Japan and Europe, the Mobile Power Pack e: has picked up an award in the US for sustainability excellence at The Battery Show having been introduced to the North American market this year.

“We’re thrilled to win the Sustainability & Circular Economy Excellence Award, as it helps validate our efforts to make the Honda Mobile Power Pack e: available to other mobility products across the mobile energy segment in North America,” said Joe Juliano, Business Unit Lead of Sustainability & Business Development at American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

“The Honda MPP offers a standardized zero-emissions energy solution that can reliably power a variety of equipment without downtime.”

Since the EM1 e: was introduced, Honda has brought out two more electric bikes: the CUV e: scooter, which uses the same MPP battery; and the WN7, a full-sized motorcycle producing a maximum of 50kW (67bhp) and 74lb-ft of torque, with a fixed battery.
