Hein Gericke's X-Trafit gloves are billed as waterproof sports gloves and have kept my hands safe for over a year now. They were a comfy fit right from day one, but how have they held up?
Whilst I've (luckily) not had the chance to test them in a spill, I've been really impressed with the build quality of these X-Trafit waterproof gloves. After 12 months of use they still look in good condition with not so much as a loose thread anywhere.
Looks wise they're pretty plain, but webbed looking knuckle protection makes an interesting change from the usual carbon fibre and plastic offerings.
These leather sports gloves are waterproof, thanks to a GORE-TEX membrane and water-repellent goatskin, and have certainly kept my hands dry in all but the worst downpours. Keeping on the practical theme, there is also some subtle reflective piping. So subtle, I didn't know it was there for several months.
For hot summer days I would definitely prefer sports gloves with some ventilation but that's always going to be a compromise if you want to stay dry in the rain. On colder winter commutes it will come as no surprise that I would wear a pair of thicker gloves, but for everyday riding these have been fantastic.
My only downer is that a small part of the inner lining by the tip of my right middle finger has worn down. This has nothing to do with swearing at London minicabs. Honest.
So if you're after a pair of gloves that give you a good feel as well as some wet weather protection you could do a lot worse then getting a pair of these. They come in the same colours as a Model T Ford and will set you back £99 here.
