Organisers for the proposed 2021 Indonesia MotoGP event on the island of Lombok have released a video revealing its layout and architecture

Mandalika MotoGP Indonesia

The proposed Mandalika circuit on the resort island of Lombok has been unveiled ahead of Indonesia’s much anticipated return to the MotoGP calendar in 2021.

One of two new events expected to join the schedule in 2021 – together with Brazil – the Mandalika Circuit was first announced back in February and work has been underway since to develop the venue, with ground being broken in August.

The event will be held on the island of Lombok, a popular tourist destination located just a short flight from Bali.

Now organisers have released a video to give an idea of the layout, architecture and the geography of the track, which will be held right on the coastline of the island.

Indonesia MotoGP set to become biggest event on calendar

With an expected capacity of 150,000 spectators, many anticipate the Indonesia MotoGP event to become the most popular on the calendar, surpassing Thailand which welcomed more than 220,000 spectators over the course of a race weekend.

Though it hasn’t held a MotoGP event since 1997, Indonesia is a huge market for both the sport and the motorcycle industry, with Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki selling vast numbers of bikes there.

The sport has made repeated attempts to return to Indonesia over the decades but has fallen foul of numerous issues, including finding a venue that was up to the standard necessary to meet FIM Grade A specifications.

As well as MotoGP, the Mandalika Circuit is set to be included on the 2021 WorldSBK schedule too.
