Brembo has a new partner but not one you might have expected after the Italian company finalised a deal to supply braking systems to Specialized, which produces mountain bikes.

Whether it’s road bikes, or racing championships like MotoGP and Formula One, Brembo supplies braking systems for them all, but the partnership with Specialized means it's about to take on some of the biggest powerhouses in the cycling segment.

You may have heard of Shimano and SRAM, to name a few, as they are leaders when it comes to braking in the engine-less two-wheel world, but Brembo has already landed a big deal with the Specialised Gravity racing team.

As a result of the agreement Brembo will supply braking systems for the team’s three riders for the remainder of the 2025 World Cup series.

Featuring Specialized branding across its calipers, Brembo is not taking things lightly as its braking system appears to be a four-piston unit, which is standard for DH (downhill) racing.

According to reports the system has only been designed for racing at the moment, although that could change in the future.

Brembo braking calipers are used across many championships and types of road bikes when it comes to motorcycling, so a similar shift towards producing cycling-spec brakes for the general public would be a safe assumption to make.

The prototypes shared by Brembo feature at the front of the bikes, with the lever blade long and flat. There’s also a small adjuster which can be seen near the pivot which will likely increase reach adjustment.

"Officially entering the highest level of professional Downhill racing is a thrilling new challenge for Brembo. We are proud to do so with a team and a brand that share our same vision of performance and innovation, and it is no coincidence that this is happening in the year of Brembo's 50th anniversary in Motorsport competitions" said Andrea Paganessi, Brembo Motorcycle Global Chief Operating Officer.

“Today, we can confidently say that thanks to Brembo's technological advancements, braking has been taken to an entirely new level.”
