Oxford rolls out new colours for Rainseal suit

Want to stay dry and be seen on dark, wet winter rides? Oxford’s got just the thing for you.

Oxford Products has added two new options to its affordable Rainseal onesie oversuit, allowing a greater choice of visibility while keeping you dry during the wet months.

This is one of those products I can personally recommend. A few Novembers ago, I spent 14 awful hours riding from Milan to Amsterdam in nonstop, insufferable rain. I burned through three pairs of allegedly waterproof gloves, and the Pinlock insert in my helmet gave up the ghost in Belgium, but my Rainseal suit kept my arms, legs, and torso dry and warm through it all.

The Rainseal oversuit is designed to be worn over your riding gear - it has no protective qualities, it just keeps you dry. And because it’s a one-piece suit, it’s more effective at doing that than the usual jacket-and-trousers combination.

The only drawback comes in the fact that you need to remove it completely if you have to ‘go Number 2.’

The Rainseal suit features fully taped seams, a partial mesh lining to make it easier to slide in and out of, and a soft lining at the collar. It folds into a waistpack (with a bit of fuss), is easy to get in and out of thanks to a knee-to-neck zip, and is adjustable at the neck, waist, cuff, and hem.

My only complaint about the suit I wore on my soggy cross-Europe adventure was the fluorescent nature of its colour scheme. Now that isn’t a problem.

Oxford has added a slightly less nerdy (although, let’s face it, if you’re wearing one of these it’s not for the sake of style) orange and black colourway that is still eye-catching. Harley-Davidson riders may be particularly fond of it.

The standard Rainseal suit retails for a very reasonable £59.99 and is also available in all-black, should orange/black or fluo/black not be your thing.

Of course, if you’re in all black, you’re less likely to be seen. Which is usually the sort of thing you want when riding in the rain. To that end, if you’re willing to pay a little extra, Oxford has also just revealed the Rainseal Bright.

“The ‘Bright’ version takes visibility to a new level,” explains Oxford. “Crafted from a reflective material that comes alive under headlights, it’s stylish by day and unmissable at night.”

I’m not sure ‘stylish’ is the word I’d use there, but you’ve probably seen this kind of reflective material showing up on jackets in recent years. In daylight it doesn’t stand out, which helps you to feel a little less conspicuous/silly. When it catches light, however, it really catches light - effectively glowing.
