Shark has expanded its LED-equipped helmet range with the launch of the SKWAL iCUP, a new full-face lid that takes design inspiration from Formula 1 with an integrated rear LED light that doubles as an automatic brake light.

Already available in stores, the SKWAL iCUP will also be displayed at EICMA in Milan in November 2026, joining the existing SKWAL i3 and SKWAL i3 JET in the French manufacturer's line-up.

The new helmet combines the sporty styling of Shark's SKWAL CUP with the lighting technology introduced on the SKWAL i3 in 2023. Its main visual feature is a vertical LED strip integrated into the rear spoiler, which illuminates red when activated.

An integrated accelerometer detects deceleration and triggers the brake light automatically, without requiring a wired connection or Bluetooth link to the motorcycle. The system is designed to make the rider more visible to following traffic, and adds the additional benefit of having a brake light showing even when rolling off the throttle or when using engine braking.

The lighting system offers three modes: position lights, smart brake lights and flashing lights. Shark claims battery life of up to 12 hours in flashing mode, with a full recharge taking approximately three hours.

The SKWAL iCUP is built around a Lexan polycarbonate shell available in two shell sizes, with a multi-density EPS liner. It is approved to the ECE 22.06 helmet safety standard and features four air inlets, two exhaust vents, a Class 1 optical visor and a Pinlock 70 insert supplied as standard.

A quick-release visor mechanism and an integrated anti-fog sun visor are also included.

Other features include a removable inner lining, Shark's Easy Fit system for spectacle wearers and a Double D-ring fastening. The helmet is also ready for a SENA for Shark communication system.

Available in sizes XS to XXL, the SKWAL iCUP weighs approximately 1,555g in a medium size, with a tolerance of 50g either way. It comes in Dark Shadow matte black and includes a second dark smoke visor in the box.

Shark first introduced LED lighting to its SKWAL range in 2015, initially using illuminated strips around the shell, chin guard and rear spoiler. The arrival of the i3 eight years later added automatic braking illumination, a feature now carried across the iCUP and open-face i3 JET

The SKWAL iCUP comes in at £299.99, with the SKWAL i3 costing £309.99. The SKWAL i3 JET options comes in ti £299.99.
