One of MotoGP's most unpopular races dropped from 2027 calendar

MotoGP has confirmed there will be no Hungarian Grand Prix in 2027, with Balaton Park set to be dropped from the calendar without a replacement.

Hungary returned to the MotoGP calendar at the same venue used by WorldSBK in 2025, however, Balaton Park has suffered from low attendance numbers and issues with the track surface in 2026.

The tight and twisty circuit marked MotoGP’s return to Hungary for the first time since 1992, ahead of a potential move to the Hungaroring, which hosts the Formula 1 World Championship annually. 

That change was expected in 2027, however, MotoGP officials have now confirmed that won’t be the case ahead of Friday’s full calendar reveal.

A statement from MotoGP said: 

“MotoGP Group can confirm that the Hungarian Grand Prix will not feature on the 2027 calendar.

“However, Hungary continues to be an important destination for the championship, and MotoGP Group is committed to exploring future opportunities to return in collaboration with the relevant authorities.”

While the unpopular Balaton Park will make way in 2027, the season-finale will continue to take place at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, in Valencia, Spain. 

Valencia is scheduled to host the finale on November 26-28, while the Buriram International Circuit in Thailand will host the season-opener. 

The 2027 calendar is set to feature a return to Argentina with MotoGP moving to Buenos Aires. This means a total of two races will take place in South America, including the Brazilian Grand Prix.

As it stands, MotoGP is still expected to race in Qatar this November despite the ongoing war in the Middle East. The Lusail International Circuit is expected to feature on next year’s race calendar, too, while the series will also move the Australian Grand Prix from Phillip Island to Adelaide.
