Vespa is channelling its past through the brand-new Edizione Ottantesimo scooter, which celebrates the company’s 80th anniversary.

The Edizione Ottantesimo is available in just 1,946 units worldwide, which is a significant number as 1946 represents the birth year of the Italian brand.

The new model is based on the same technical platform as the GTS 310, meaning it shares the same single that produces a claimed 25 hp (around 24.6bhp) at 6,500rpm and 21 Ib-ft of torque at 5,250rpm.

Among the technical features are full LED lighting and a five-inch TFT display. The Edizione Ottantesimo also benefits from smartphone connectivity, traction control, an anti-lock braking system and a keyless ignition.

Both the front and rear brakes use hydraulically operated 220mm stainless steel discs, while the front suspension features a single-sided swingarm with coil spring and hydraulic control. At the rear is a double hydraulic shock absorber with four-position spring pre-load adjustability.

The bike’s wheel rims feature a design that’s inspired by the sheet-metal version used on the Vespa 98 that began the company’s journey in 1946. Additionally, the new model includes a special three-dimensional graphic with the number 80 on each side. This same feature is found on the matching silver and green helmet, which will be included as standard with every Edizione Ottantesimo delivery.
