The limited-edition machine was only announced last week, with just 500 units being made available worldwide. But no sooner than the lightweight version of KTM’s successful super naked gone on sale, they’d all but sold out, with initial reports claiming that all the bikes had been scooped up in under an hour. Italian website Omnimoto is claiming that it took just 48-minutes for the 500 examples to be snapped up by speed-hungry motorcyclists.

At the heart of the Super Duke RR is KTM’s thumping great 1,301cc V-twin, churning out an eye-watering 180bhp and 103lb-ft of torque. Those numbers in a stock Super Duke would feel potent but given that the limited edition machine is a handy 9kg lighter than the stocker, we suspect this bike will be a seriously handy track day tool.

Helping to achieve this weight loss is extensive use of carbon fibre, with the entire seat unit being constructed from the lightweight and super strong material. Elsewhere the bike breaths through a tick Titanium Akrapovič exhaust, with lighter wheels also helping to shed 1.5kg.

The chassis of the bike has also been revised, with bespoke WP Apex Pro 7548 Close Cartridge forks, an adjustable WP Apex Pro 7117 steering damper, and Apex Pro 7746 rear shock rounding out the hardware.

Sadly, for us and you, the chances of swinging a leg over this mythical best is extremely slim. Many of those sold will be getting locked away and will likely never see the light of day. And of those that do make it out onto the road and track, the chances are the owner will be having so much fun, they’ll likely not want to share it with anyone!
