Honda CBR1000RR-R 30th Anniversary honours Fireblade origins amid 2022 updates

The Honda CBR1000RR-R SP Fireblade pays homage to its CBR900R Fireblade founding father with a distinctive 30th Anniversary limited edition throwback

Honda has revealed a series of updates to its flagship Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade 2022, including the addition of a 30th Anniversary limited edition that pays homage to its origins with a retro-themed livery.

Two years after the seventh generation CBR1000RR-R stole the show in Milan as the latest sportsbike in Big Red’s long line of Fireblades that started back in 1992 with the original CBR900RR.

Three decades later and the Fireblade has come a long way but remains one of the benchmarks in class for its blend of performance, quality engineering and useability.

As a tribute in honour of the seminal machine’s birthday , the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP 30th Anniversary harks back with a distinctive recreation of the white, blue and red livery penned by the original designer Mr Hiroaki Tsukui.

In addition, there is a ‘Ring of Fire’ screen animation on the dashboard display, a blue seat and while the fuel tank cover, Smart key fob and Akrapovic muffler features a special 30th Anniversary logo and badging.

The 30th Anniversary Fireblade comes amid a raft of updates for the 2022 MY, with refinements focused on improving corner stability, brisker pick up and tweaks to the electronics package.

Sharpening the CBR1000RR-R’s dynamics and drawing inspiration from its racing background, revised intake ports, airbox funnels and exhaust mid-section are geared towards improving a better response in the mid-range, while handling is sharpened by an ‘optimised’ Honda Selectable Torque Control.

Elsewhere, the CBR1000RR-R features the same 998cc inline four-cylinder inline mated to a diamond-style frame, with more dynamic-centred changes in line with feedback from HRC’s racers, who have complained the Fireblade - while quick - lacks stability under hard cornering

The changes apply to both the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade and the top of the range CBR1000RR-R SP
