BMW R nineT Urban G/S revealed

BMW HAS just taken the wraps off this production version of the R nineT G/S which we first saw as a ‘concept’ in June.

The latest addition to the R ninet range ‘draws on the genes of the very first and legendary’ R 80 G/S according to BMW, with classic enduro styling.

Called the R nineT Urban G/S, it swaps the original R nineT’s upside-down forks and high-spec radial-mounted Monobloc Brembo front brake calipers for right-way-up forks and conventional four-pot Brembos.

It gets cast alloy wheels with a 19-inch front - but wire-spoked ones are available as an option, as are knobbly tyres.

ABS is standard equipment and BMW’s traction control system, called Automatic Stability Control, is available as an option.

The blue and white colour scheme derives heavily from the G/S it's inspired by and it gets a classic enduro-style high mudguard and headlight cowl.

The frame is ‘modular’, with four sections including a removable pillion sub-frame.

Like the R nineT, it’s powered by BMW’s air-cooled 1170cc boxer-twin, making 110hp and now compliant with latest Euro4 emission limits.

It was unveiled at the Eicma motorcycle show in Milan, Italy, along with an updated R nineT, with price to be confirmed.
