A big-bore Bologna bruiser has been updated for next year, as the 2023 Ducati Diavel V4 has been announced. And there is more than just a new engine going on here, as the bike is massively updated for the previous 1260, pretty much from the ground up!

The most obvious change is the switch from the previous generation’s 159 hp, 1262cc V-twin engine to the Granturismo V4 as found in the Multistrada V4 and V4 S. The engine is a tour de force, on the spec sheet and the road, and boosts the already arm-wrenching bike’s peak power to 168 hp. While peak power is up, peak torque drops slightly from 95lb-ft to 92lb-ft – although it’s not really an amount you’d notice on the road.

Obviously, the chassis of the bike has been extensively updated to receive the new engine, and while they were there, Ducati’s engineers have taken the chance to thoroughly update the bike's chassis. Overall the new bike is claimed to be 223kg ready to ride, some 13kg lighter than the outgoing model, with 5kg being shed from the engine and 8kg from the chassis. As with the Diavel 1260, each end of the bike is graced with top-spec kit from Brembo, with slinky-looking Stylema calipers keeping the deceleration in order. Suspension on this model of Diavel V4 comes in the form of 50mm USD front forks and cantilever rear shock. No mention of Öhlins semi-active kit on this bike, which could be reserved for a more trick ‘S’ model arriving later.

Like the previous Diavel, the new V4 is dripping with tech and electronics, with three power modes and four riding modes covering Sport, Touring, Urban and the a new mode for wet weather. Each mode features bespoke cornering traction control, cornering ABS, and Ducati Wheelie Control.

The bike will be arriving in UK Ducati dealers in January 2023 starting at £23,595 for the red bike, rising to £23,895 for the black bike.
