New MotoGP Hall of Fame revealed
MotoGP revealed a new Hall of Fame at the San Marino GP – here’s what you need to know about it.

MotoGP racing will have served as the centre of attention for many during last weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix at Misano, but a new Hall of Fame was also introduced.
Marc Marquez took another step closer to sealing a seventh MotoGP title thanks to victory in Sunday’s race, but champions of the past were inducted prior to the weekend, including the likes of Giacomo Agostini, Kenny Roberts, Mick Doohan, Kevin Schwantz and Wayne Rainey.
For racing fans of the 21st century that grew up watching the likes of Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo, it will come as no surprise to hear that both Spaniards and the Australian were also welcomed into the Hall of Fame. That was also the case for the sport’s most recognisable name, Valentino Rossi.

The ceremony also welcomed legends of the sport that are no longer with us, with Mike Hailwood, Barry Sheene, Phil Read and more being inducted.
The celebration also saw the introduction of a brand-new world champions trophy tower. The silverware features the names of all 76 Grand Prix world champions, and each plaque is shaped with lean angle, in order to mimic a rider’s position on track.
Regarding the new trophy, MotoGP’s press release said:
“A new look for the iconic trophy was also revealed on stage. The Tower of Champions represents the values of the most exciting sport on Earth. The new Tower is an evolution of the previous trophy, bringing it into the faster, forward, fearless era.
“The trophy’s ceramic-coated aluminium base supports the “Champions Tower”; a vertical column of stainless steel plaques engraved with the 76 names of every World Champion so far. Each plaque – shaped like a riders’ lean angle – is split into two parts. There’s a matte side with the rider’s name, and a glossy side with the year, bike manufacturer and number.”
