2024 is a year of change in the world of small dirt bikes, with the updated GasGas MC 50 and MC 65 now announced.
The updates for GasGas’ smallest dirt bikes follow much in the same direction as those of KTM, and of Husqvarna, whose respective ranges have been recently announced.
The changes for the Austrian and Swedish brands focused on accessibility and adjustability, with more options for changing the bikes’ respective cockpits to suit a larger number of riders with a wider range of body sizes. Since children tend to not stay the same size for very long, the new levels of adjustability also mean the 50cc and 65cc dirt bikes from the Pierer Mobility Group brands have a longer lifespan for the people who ride them.
2024 GasGas MC 50
For GasGas’ MC 50, the bodywork, shock and subframe can all now be fitted in two positions, meaning the seat height can be changed between either 634mm or 682mm.
There is also new bodywork; a slightly larger motor at 49.9cc including new cylinder heads and digital ignition, a new frame aimed at stability and durability, a reinforced clutch basket, a change from two radiators to one, larger radiator, an internally smoothed out exhaust; a shorter rear WP XACT shock to lower the rear of the bike and improve longitudinal balance; new pegs, bars, and ODI grips; and a new hour meter.
2024 GasGas MC 65
The MC 65 takes many of the same updates as the 50, with the seat height adjustable between either 715mm or 760mm thanks to a rear shock, subframe, and bodywork that can now be fitted in two positions. The frame takes the same stability and durability focus of the 50,, the cylinder heads have been redesigned for simpler maintenance, digital ignition helps to increase power, a new steel clutch basket improves the clutch’s protection, while the clutch itself self-adjusts to maintain performance. Further, the inside of the exhaust has got the same smoothing treatment on the internal welds as the 50, and the dual Pankl radiators now match the design from GasGas’ larger dirt bikes.
The WP XACT rear shock now has a reduced travel of 253.5mm, lowering the rear ride height and increasing longitudinal balance.
Other updates are to the gear lever, pegs, bars, and grips, as well as a new kickstart and hour meter.
The 2024 GasGas MC 65 will arrive in dealers in December 2023, costing £4,999; while the 2024 GasGas MC 50 will arrive in dealers next January, costing £3,999.
