Marc Marquez reveals contract hopes for MotoGP 2027
An ever-changing rider market, and manufacturers acting fast, could lead to MotoGP champion Marc Marquez announcing his future sooner rather than later.

Marc Marquez admits his main objective is to stay with Ducati for the 2027 MotoGP season, but the rider market could force decisions to be taken sooner than expected.
Marquez, who will start the 2026 campaign at 33 years of age, dominated the 2025 season and clinched his seventh MotoGP title prior to suffering a season-ending injury in Indonesia.
A nine-time world champion overall, Marquez is now in the final year of his current two-year contract with the factory Lenovo Ducati team. At the team’s 2026 MotoGP launch in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, the Spaniard admitted he would prefer to remain with the Borgo Panigale brand for another two years. However, Marquez would also like to have more time to make a decision than he’s likely going to get.

That’s because teams are expected to sign 2027 contracts as early as possible, but what that does is take away the chance for someone like Marquez to see if other brands might be able to offer a more competitive package in the future.
Speaking about his plans for 2027 following the launch, Marquez said:
“If you check my career, if I’m in a team where I feel good, fast and everything works well, I try not to move. Of course, my first option is to try and be with Ducati but step by step. It looks like every time, the contracts [are signed] earlier and earlier; we’re in conversations but I need to evaluate all the things.”
It’s no secret that Honda is interested in having Marquez return to its MotoGP project, which doesn’t seem impossible given the Japanese company has become a lot more competitive in recent times.
But staying with Ducati is likely to offer Marquez the best opportunity at winning more titles in the short term.
Marquez went on to say:
“I would like to go forward and wait a bit more and decide our future mid-season for example…. We are in conversations, we are getting closer and closer to some projects and we need to decide but it is true manufacturers try to take one rider and build their project then.”
