KTM has issued a recall for some 390 models, all of which will need their engine control unit (ECU) updated.

The recall comes three weeks after the Austrian brand issued a recall across various 2024 models, due to a potentially faulty fuel cap seal.

On that occasion, it was owners of a 2024 125, 250, 390, and 990 Duke that were affected. However, KTM has now listed the 390 Duke (model year 2024-2026), the 390 Enduro R, SMC R, Adventure R and Adventure X (MY 2025-2026) as models that require an update to the engine control unit software.

The issue could ultimately cause the engine of all five motorcycles to stall, especially at low speeds or when rolling off the throttle.

As part of a press release, KTM acknowledged the issue, saying: “An update to the engine control unit (ECU) software will be applied to all affected motorcycles. This update significantly reduces the risk of engine stalling, particularly at low speeds or during deceleration, while also improving rideability with improved low-end torque and increased engine stability.”

Unsurprisingly, KTM also says it is “taking decisive action to eliminate any potential risk and uphold the highest standards of performance and safety”.

Affected owners will receive a letter notifying them of the recall, which will be carried out free of charge by authorised KTM dealers.

If you haven’t received a letter yet, owners can check if they’re motorcycle is affected by heading over to the ‘Service’ section of the official KTM website. From there, you will need to enter your 17-digit VIN and Delivery Certificate Number.
