One of Europe’s biggest motorcycle expos, Intermot, has been postponed until February 2027, as part of a decision taken by the Industrie-Verband Motorrad (IVM) and exhibition organisers Koelnmesse.

The decision is a fascinating one, because it means the Cologne-based event won’t be held around the same time as EICMA, which has positioned itself as the leading motorcycle expo in recent times.

Moving the three-day event to February, as opposed to early December, also means the German event won’t be taking place around the same time as the UK’s MCL, either.

The decision to move the show to February also means Intermot will be looking to drive up interest at a time of year when motorcycle sales can often be slow to get going. The change has been backed by several big-name manufacturers, including the likes of Honda, Yamaha and Royal Enfield.

Intermot, which will now take place on 12-14 February 2027, has remained an important motorcycle trade fair in Germany over the years. However, the IVM wants to make sure the event remains one of the main exhibitions across Europe.

As part of a press release from Intermot, Albert Erlacher, Head of Motorcycles at Honda in Germany, said this about the announcement:

"Honda expressly supports the Intermot reboot, because we are convinced that the motorcycle industry needs a united, strong presence, right now. The new start in the spring offers the chance to bring together the entire industry at an early date for the start of the season and to show unanimously what motorcycling stands for today - as a culture, economic factor and mobility form of the future.

“Especially important to us in this context is the solidarity of all market participants. A central platform where manufacturers, the retail trade, associations, media and politics come together is decisive for positioning our themes visibly, audibly and effectively. This restart of course calls for new elan, fresh ideas and much dedication on the part of all participants.”
