Honda plans to increase motorcycle production capacity by 670,000 in India
Honda is planning a new motorcycle production line in India, with an annual capacity of 670,000 units expected.

Honda is set to add a third production line to its second plant in India, which is scheduled to become operational in 2028.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (known as HMSI) is Honda’s motorcycle production and sales subsidiary in India, and the new production line will be added to its plant in Tapukara, Alwar district, Rajasthan.
The new assembly line is set to boost annual production capacity by 670,000 units, which would take Honda’s second plant in India over the 2 million mark. The new production line will focus on 125cc and 160cc scooters and light motorcycles.
It was less than one year ago when Honda again revealed plans to increase production in India. On that occasion it concerned the Vithalapur facility in Gujarat, which is soon going to have a fourth plant added.
The new site, expected in 2027, means the plant in Gujarat will be the Japanese brand’s biggest motorcycle assembly plant anywhere in the world.

In terms of the new production line in Rajasthan, though, Honda says it will also create 2,000 new jobs alongside the above-mentioned production capacity increase.
HMSI began motorcycle production in July 2011, with an initial capacity of 600,000 units, which was doubled to 1.2 million units in March 2012.
The second plant currently has an annual production capacity of 1.3 million units, although HMSI is planning to increase the annual capacity of its second plant to 1.34 million before the end of the fiscal year (31 March, 2027).
In addition to building a third line at the second plant, HMSI is planning to further expand production capacity of other HMSI plants. According to Honda, the overall HMSI annual production capacity will increase from the current 6.25 million units to 8 million units by 2028.
