Harry Metcalfe bike collection sells out fast
A quarter of vintage Harry Metcalfe motorcycles have sold in quick time at the NEC Classic Motor Show auction.

Harry Metcalfe’s four-strong motorcycle collection, featuring a pair of Yamahas, a Kawasaki Z1300 and a Honda XL500R have all sold at the Iconic Motorcycle Sale, which took place on 9 November, at the NEC Classic Motor Show.
The quartet of motorcycles that went up for auction were all previously featured on Metcalfe’s popular Harry’s Garage YouTube channel.
The line-up of bikes included a 1989 Yamaha XTZ750 Super Tenere that features a new twin-cylinder 749cc engine capable of producing 69bhp, as well as a top speed of around 120mph.

The second Yamaha to be auctioned as part of the collection was Metcalfe’s 1979 XT500, which uses a twin-valve, four-stroke, 500cc single-cylinder engine that delivers 32bhp.

The Yamaha XT500 is a particularly memorable motorcycle because alongside its racing success, it was also used as the villain’s motorcycle of choice in the James Bond film, For Your Eyes Only. This Metcalfe-owned model sold for £5,577, while the Super Tenere went for £3,335.
The most powerful bike of the entire collection was a 1979 Kawasaki Z1300, which features a liquid-cooled, inline six-cylinder 1,286cc engine, that delivers a claimed 120bhp.
The Z1300 sold for a price of £5,980, which is the same exact figure that the fourth and final bike of the collection went for. Said machine was a 1984 Honda XL500R, and like the Yamaha XT500, it was used for racing at the Paris-Dakar. The bike was introduced by Honda in the late 1970s as a direct rival to the XT500.
The four bikes that formed Metcalfe’s collection sold for a total figure of £20,872.
