Greater Manchester Police off-road rider appeal

GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE are appealing for information after a balaclava-wearing man was seen riding a motocross bike through Salford, with a helmetless child sat in front on him.

In a post on Facebook, the force shared a CCTV image of the vehicle, which was taken at the junction of Littleton Road and South Radford Street at 2.20pm on Friday, March 1st.

The force were made aware of the non-road legal motorcycles when a member of the public reported anti-social riding on Frederick Road. The rider with the young passenger was witnessed speeding and pulling wheelies. By the time officers attended the scene the riders had left.

Police have trawled through CCTV in an attempt to identify the men, and have issued this appeal across social media:

In the appeal, PC Steve Williams, from GMP’s Salford division, states: “Although you can’t see the men’s faces, I’m hoping someone might recognise the bikes or know who is behind the mask. So please take a long look at the images.

“Their actions were brazen and reckless, not only putting themselves and other road users in danger but they also put a young child at risk.

“Anything could have happened and ultimately this could have had devastating consequences, not to mention we understand the concerns the use of off-road bikes raise in communities.

“We are desperate to stop this happening again and find those responsible. Please, if you know anything, get in touch with police immediately.”

While many Facebook users have slated the rider for his irresponsibility, others have taken a comical approach to the photo. Matt Crutchley commented: "When you've got to rob a bank at 4 but pick your kid up at 3."
