Brad Jones has spoken out publicly for the first time since the serious accident during the Brands Hatch round of the British Superbike Championship (BSB) as he returned home for the first time in almost two months.
The 23-year old crashed heavily in an accident at Clark Curve coming onto the main straight during the early stages of the first BSB race at Brands Hatch on 24th July.
The iForce Lloyd & Jones PR Racing BMW rider was airlifted to hospital with a series of injuries - including to his chest, head and a pelvic fracture - prompting doctors to place him into an induced coma.
Having been eased out of the induced coma and operated upon, Jones has begun to make a notable recovery to such an extent he has been allowed to continue his recovery at home.
Revealing his physical injuries are coming along well, he admits the brain injury will need time to heal and will require therapy.
“I don't know where to start with this post...but here goes!
“Over 7 and a half weeks since my accident at Brands Hatch and I'm now home to carry a out full rehabilitation program and this is down to all the funds raised to get me home sooner than expected.
“My body and broken bones are healing well but my brain injury needs time and therapy to recover.
“Not sure what the future holds for me but whatever happens I'll be giving 100% to get back fit again and take it from there.
Despite the unclear future, Jones says he has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the racing community over the past seven weeks.
“Firstly I want to thank the BSB Medical Team for literally saving my life, all the orange army that are always on hand to assist, Stuart Higgs, Jonathan Palmer and the whole BSB Staff,the Air Ambulance who got me to King College Hospital so quickly and every doctor, consultant and nurse at the Hospital who were truly amazing.
“The most overwhelming thing for me to try understand is the amount of support I've had from EVERYONE!!!!
“I would like to thank my family, friends and the racing community for there amazing support. There have been some key people who have gone above and beyond to help me in various ways, too many to list but you know who you are.”
