Fans Can Now Vote on F1-Like Fan Engagement in MotoGP
A new fan engagement initiative will be introduced by MotoGP at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix

MotoGP has confirmed it will debut its own version of F1’s ‘driver of the day’ fan vote at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix, at Jerez.
The new initiative from MotoGP will allow fans to vote on who they consider to be the best rider in Sunday’s Grand Prix, as is the case in F1.
F1 has been running the voting system since 2016, and while the results have at times been accurate based on performance, it’s also turned into a popularity vote on a few occasions.
One of those occasions was round three of the 2025 season when Yuki Ysunoda was awarded driver of the day on his Red Bull Racing debut in Japan (his home race), despite finishing 12th.
Replicating F1, MotoGP will reveal the results of the vote live on the broadcast moments after the Grand Prix has ended, as well as reposting them across its social media channels.
Perhaps not a coincidence, the new fan engagement initiative has been announced a few weeks after Liberty Media’s acquisition of MotoGP looks set to finally go ahead - the American company is also the owner of F1.
The new fan engagement is a good idea and one that might make fans feel more part of the sport, but it’s not the first time that MotoGP has looked to replicate F1.
Towards the end of 2021 it was confirmed by MotoGP that a new documentary titled ‘Unlimited’ was set to be released on Amazon Prime, with the hope of emulating the hugely popular Drive to Survive series on Netflix.
However, MotoGP’s attempts to land a show as popular as DTS were unsuccessful as it eventually scrapped season two.
The new ‘Rider of the Day’ fan vote is the latest attempt by MotoGP to increase fan engagement, after it introduced sprint podiums in fan zones, as well as featuring a rider parade on Sundays.
