54 years 8 monthsWith only 500 ever made, any example of the Ducati 1299 Superleggera is special. However, the one you’re looking at here, soon to go under the hammer at the NEC Classic Motor Show, has some additional provenance: it used to belong to Paul Hollywood.
Yep, the chap off British Bake Off, who has an extensive collection of motorbikes. And the 1299 isn’t the only Ducati from Hollywood’s garage available at the NEC sale - his 1199 Superleggera is also being sold.
The 1199 Superleggera tips the scales at a mere 155kg dry, with its pithy weight figure helped by a frame and wheels made from magnesium, plus a load of carbon fibre bodywork and a smattering of titanium.
Hollywood's example of the superbike is number 292 of 500 and has covered around 3,000 miles. Included in the sale are a stamped service book, a spare key, plus an original box of parts containing mirror brackets, a tool kit, a screen and a fresh battery.
The 1299 Superleggera meanwhile is the heavier bike of the two, but only by a kilo, with a dry weight of just 156kg. It more than makes up for that by having around 15bhp more from its larger V-twin engine (or ‘L-twin’ if you ask Ducati), giving a total of 215bhp. Like the 1199, it’s made from a delicious blend of magnesium, carbon fibre and titanium.
It's done just over 2,000 miles and comes with a stamped service history from Ducati Glasgow. Its last work was done at 1,271 miles.
The 1199 is expected to be the least expensive of the two, with an estimate of £35,000 - £40,000. The 1299 meanwhile has an estimate of £40,000 to £45,000. Both will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers on 10 November.
