What was expected to be a short-term comeback to MotoGP for Cal Crutchlow is set to continue at next month’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The LCR Honda rider will replace Johann Zarco for the sixth consecutive race weekend, after returning to the sport in place of the French rider at Mugello, in May.

Since his comeback began, Crutchlow has also competed at the Hungarian Grand Prix - his first appearance at Balaton Park – Brno, Assen, and last weekend’s German GP at Sachsenring.

MotoGP has not had a full-time British rider in the series since Crutchlow competed for the satellite Honda team in 2020. The 2026 British Grand Prix will also be the first time that fans have had a home rider to get behind since Crutchlow made his above-mentioned appearance at Silverstone in 2021, when riding for the factory Yamaha team as a replacement for Maverick Vinales following his mid-season switch to Aprilia Racing.

With no return date confirmed for Zarco, Crutchlow could continue to ride in place of the former Moto2 champion beyond next month’s Silverstone appearance.

The British MotoGP is the first round scheduled after the summer break, which began after last weekend’s German Grand Prix.

Zarco has been out of action following a heavy fall at the Catalan GP, when he collided with Francesco Bagnaia and Luca Marini. Zarco’s fall was one of several incidents which occurred in Barcelona that Sunday, with Alex Marquez also involved in a nasty collision with Pedro Acosta while the KTM rider was leading the race.

Unlike Zarco, Marquez has been back in action since suffering his injuries, which includes finishing second in the sprint race at Sachsenring.

The British Grand Prix will take place on 7–9 August.
